 Item

Scope and Contents

Color - Sound - 16 mm - 00:13:30 Dramatic photo macrography and animation combine to tell the unusual story of an army of ants making inroads in the South today. This natural color film records the life cycles of the imported fire ant, so named because of its sting of fire. Step by step this motion picture reveals the 4 major adult forms of the imported fire ant. Dramatic scenes show the ant in action, sinking its jaws into flesh and injecting venom from its stinger. The camera takes you on a tour of the underground honeycomb of chambers inside the ant colony where ants lay eggs and their young develop.
