Series III is comprised of diversely formatted 4-H materials. It includes photographs, publications, correspondence and articles on boys' and girls' club work from 1915 through 1917, Extension Subcommittee on 4-H Club Work reports, impact studies and bibliographies, and Youth Staff Development and Training intern reports. It contains 4-H sheet music, 33.3 RPM records of radio spots, 4-H club songs on 78 RPM records, and National 4-H Week kits and posters. The sheet music is arranged chronologically. However, songs published the same date are arranged alphabetically by the composer or lyricist's name. Songs published by the same composer or lyricist the same year are arranged alphabetically by title of the song. The National 4-H Leader O.H. Benson's personal file in which the items are not sorted by date or subject was divided into 27 folders in order to maintain the original arrangement. All other dated materials are arranged chronologically. Many of the photographs are not dated and so are arranged by decades based on best estimates. The one poster that is not dated has been placed at the end of the poster collection.

Abstract

A girl in a yellow dress poses on a box as her mother or friend and brother measure the hem of her party dress. The brother’s bat and mitt are by his side and he has a disgusted look on his face. There is a photo of an Angus in the background with a champion ribbon hanging on the photo.

Custodial History

One of seven pieces of National 4-H Calendar art displayed in a historical exhibit detailing the National 4-H Calendar Program. This exhibit was created for the 2012 National 4-H Conference and was also displayed at the 2012 National 4-H Hall of Fame at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, MD. In addition, it was one of three pieces of calendar art displayed for the Washington DC Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society at their Founders Day Luncheon, March 2013.

Displayed in 4-H Center Sales Department, end office on left in J. C. Penney Hall at the National 4H Conference Center, Chevy Chase, Maryland, until 2024.

Dimensions

Acrylic or oil on board, 26-3/4 x 21-3/4 inches. Original frame conserved after grant from IBM and Valerie Pace, 4-H alumna.

1965 National 4-H Calendar Art by Brown & Bigelow. The company produced a complete selection of 4-H calendars: aall calendars in three sizes, plus a 4-H Record Calendar and a 4-H Memo calendar for individual members.
