Biographical Sketch
Ralph Edward Hodgson (1906-1990) worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) from 1930 to 1973. His work focused on dairy cattle breeding, feeding, and management. During his career, he advanced in professional, scientific, and administrative responsibilities in connection with dairy and animal husbandry. His notable positions at USDA included assistant chief of the Bureau of Dairy Industry, from 1945 to 1953; chief of the Dairy Husbandry Research Branch, Agricultural Research Service, from 1953 to 1957; and director of the Animal Science Research Division, from 1957 to 1973.
