Content Description
The USDA 150th Anniversary Time Capsule contains memorabilia and publicity materials related to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 150th anniversary activities held in 2012. Items include a commemorative DVD titled "Secretaries of Agriculture: 150 Years, 30 Leaders" and DVD recordings of original interviews with former Secretaries of Agriculture Clayton Yeutter, Mike Espy, Dan Glickman, Mike Johanns, Ed Schafer, John Block, Tom Vilsack, and Bob Bergland on DVD. There are also USDA timeline files; a USDA graphic polo shirt; bookmarks; stickers and decals; lapel pin; notecards; and an 18-foot banner with the USDA 150th anniversary graphic. Publicity posters advertising the Anniversary Brown Bag Seminar Series are also included. There are planning notes, participant schedules, brochures, booklets, and correspondence related to USDA staff participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (June-July 2012).

Organizational History
On May 15, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law an act of Congress establishing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In 2012, USDA commemorated and celebrated its 150th anniversary. Related events were held throughout 2012, including USDA participation in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and USDA's 150th Anniversary Brown Bag Seminar Series.
