Organizational History
Mirex is a chemical compound that was used as an insecticide to control fire ants. It was first used commercially in 1955, but was banned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1976 because of its environmental impact. This collection documents a study (1969-1971) conducted in South Carolina estuarine areas to determine concentrations of Mirex in fauna. The study was partially funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
