The USDA Office of the General Counsel Legislative Histories Collection consists of 517 bound volumes containing materials related to U.S. federal laws pertaining to agriculture. The volumes are arranged by congressional session number, then by public law number. Within each public law section, the documents are ordered by date. The collection is not exhaustive but includes major pieces of legislative history related to federal agricultural laws.

Organizational History
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is an independent legal agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The OGC provides legal advice and services to the Secretary of Agriculture and to all other officials and agencies in the Department with respect to USDA programs and activities. Departmental legal services are centralized within the OGC, and the General Counsel reports directly to the Secretary.
