Press Kits, 1959-2014

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Press kits were produced for Smokey Bear's campaigns as a means of expanding Smokey's audience via popular broadcasting mediums. The Smokey Bear Collection contains television, radio, magazine, and newspaper press kits in addition to a multi-format press kit. Media formats in the television press kits include: 16mm film reels, 35mm slides, U-matic tapes, BetacamSP tapes, and VHS tapes. Media formats in the radio press kits include: 1/4-inch open reels, sound cassettes, and data discs (data CDs). The earlier radio kits also included 7-inch phonograph records that have been separated and placed with the rest of the phonograph records (see Box 58). The magazine and newspaper press kits include prints of the magazine and newspaper advertisements meant for redistribution in the print periodicals.
