Biographical Sketch
Emerson Merlyn Brooks (1905-1982) was an agricultural statistician who began his U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) career in 1933 with the Bureau of Agricultural Economics (BAE). In 1939, Brooks was transferred to Washington, D.C., to specialize in estimates of tobacco, peanut, and sugar crops. From 1963 to 1967, he served as the deputy director of the Field Operations Division. Brooks completed his service with the USDA working with the Statistical Reporting Service (SRS) as a staff officer for career development and foreign programs from 1967 to 1972.
