Biographical Sketch

William Allison Lloyd (1870-1946) was born in Morrow County, Ohio, on September 9, 1870. He graduated from the National Northern University in Lebanon, Ohio. He later earned a law degree from that university. After practicing law in Texas, he returned to Ohio and settled in Meigs County. As a farmer, he took a leading part in revitalizing the Grange movement in Ohio.

Lloyd was hired by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Farm Management (later the Office of Cooperative Extension Work) in 1913 to supervise the work of county agents in more than 30 midwestern and western states. He pioneered programs in farm leadership at the local level, and developed plans for state and county bureaus to conduct extension work.
