National Poultry Improvement Plan Records

The National Poultry Improvement Plan Records contain documents, reports, and summaries of early efforts to improve the economic aspects of poultry production through breeding and disease control. Materials include newsletters, publications, and reports relating to the poultry industry and the early history of NPIP.

The collection includes the following materials: Data on chickens and turkeys tested for Salmonella pullorum (1923-1948), and selection and blood testing (1936-1947); proposed changes to the NPIP regulations (1936-1978); minutes of the General Conference Committee (1944-1978) and the Regional Conferences of NPIP Supervisors and Inspectors (1940-1961, 1977); performance reports of fowl in the Record of Performance (ROP) and Register of Merit (ROM) programs (1935-1968), the Random Sample Egg Production Tests (1959-1980), the Turkey Performance Tests (1955-1967), and the Chicken Meat Production Tests (1960-1963); audio recordings of the NPIP Conferences (1954-1982); and registered trademarks of the NPIP emblems and various poultry breeding farms (1940-1967) issued by the U.S. Patent Office.
