Organizational History
The Poultry Industry Hall of Fame was created in 1953 at the annual meeting of the American Poultry Historical Society (APHS). With the Hall of Fame, the APHS recognized outstanding contributors to the poultry industry and poultry research from North America. Honorees were selected on a triennial basis, with the formal inductions taking place at the beginning of the following fiscal year. The Hall of Fame was located in Jull Hall at the University of Maryland from 1954 to 1970. Each inductee was represented with an oil-painted or photographic portrait. The Hall of Fame moved to the National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, Maryland in 1970. Because of space limitations, the portrait format was changed to smaller, etched metal plaques with drawn images of the inductees.
